Why the code
matters.

Your NOC code decides which programs your work counts for. A code that doesn’t match your real duties can lead to a refused application.

TEER 0–3

Decides if your work counts

Only jobs in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 count as skilled work experience for Express Entry, including the Canadian Experience Class.

Duties first

Officers read your duties

Your experience has to match the NOC description and a substantial number of its main duties. A matching job title is not enough.

1 code

Has to match everywhere

The same NOC goes on the reference letter, the application, and for employers the Job Bank ad, LMIA or job offer and contract.

Three steps.
Zero guesswork.

32-second walkthrough: a line cook’s duties matched to NOC 63200, with the duties that back it up.

01

Paste the duties

From a reference letter, a job posting or your own words. Add the job title if you have one.

02

Each NOC code shows how well your duties fit and which of them drove the match.

03

Who it’s for

For people finding their own NOC

Know your code before you apply.

Applying from abroad, or already in Canada on a work or study permit and planning for PR.

  • Describe your work in your own words. You don’t need to know NOC terms.
  • See which of your duties match each code, and whether you cover more than half of its main duties.
  • TEER explained in plain words, including whether the job counts for Express Entry.
  • Already working in Canada? Check whether your current job counts as skilled work before you apply for PR.

Questions,
answered.

Is nocfinder free to try?

Yes. You get 3 searches free. Paid plans start at $9 a month, and the Consultant plan with unlimited searches is $49 a month.

Does my job title decide my NOC?

No. Titles vary between employers. Immigration officers compare the duties you actually did with the NOC description and its main duties. That is why nocfinder matches on duties first and uses the title as a hint.

I already work in Canada. Can nocfinder help me?

Yes. If you are on a work or study permit and planning to apply for permanent residence, check the NOC and TEER of your Canadian job. Only TEER 0, 1, 2 and 3 jobs count as skilled work experience for Express Entry.

Can employers use it for an LMIA or job offer?

Yes. Paste the duties from your job ad to find the matching NOC and TEER, then use that code in your Job Bank ad, LMIA or offer of employment. Program rules change, so confirm current requirements with ESDC or a licensed representative.

Which NOC version does nocfinder use?

NOC 2021 Version 1.0 with the TEER system, the version IRCC and ESDC use for current applications. Every code links to its official description on Canada.ca.

What is TEER?

TEER stands for Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities. It is the second digit of a NOC code and runs from 0 (management jobs) to 5 (jobs learned through a short work demonstration).

Two codes look similar. How do I choose?

Compare your duties with the main duties of each code side by side. Pick the code whose main duties you actually performed, covering more than half of them, not the one with the closest title.

Is nocfinder official or legal advice?

No. nocfinder is an independent tool, not affiliated with IRCC or ESDC, and it is not legal advice. It helps you find and check the right code. The final choice is yours or your licensed representative’s.

Stop guessing your NOC.
